Dr. Theodore Markellos SOP Chapter #243 Celebrates Another Successful Oxi Day Luncheon
On October 31, 2010 the Dr. Theodore Markellos Chapter held it’s third annual Oxi Day Luncheon, commemorating the famous day: October 28, 1940. Attendees included AHEPA Supreme Governor Peter Triandafylos, AHEPA District 20 Governor John Kopatsis, AHEPA PSP Dr. James Dimitriou, and other dignitaries. The luncheon included a powerpoint and video presentation on the historic significance of Oxi Day to World War II. The Chapter also had two speakers, John Christopher and George Stavros, both World War II veterans, who spoke about their experience in the war. The Chapter concluded the event with presenting it’s first annual “Veteran of the Year” award. Over $1,000 was raised, with proceeds to benefit the Dr. Markellos Hellenic Library Fund and the setup of wireless internet at the St. Katherine’s parish.
