SOP President's Message - April 2011
Brothers and Sisters of the AHEPA Family,
On March 25th, I had the honor of representing the Sons of Pericles at the Greek Embassy in Washington DC and at The White House for their annual Greek Independence Day events. At the Embassy, I met Ambassador of Greece to the U.S., Vassilis Kaskarelis, and various other officials from the Embassy, Greece, and Cyprus.
The event was highlighted by a speech from Archbishop Demetrios, which was very informative and inspirational. Later in the day we made our way to The White House to attend the President’s address regarding Greek Independence Day. The elegance of the White House and the prestige of attending a Presidential reception made me proud to be representing the Sons of Pericles.
Being a member of an organization that the President of the United States and Diplomatic officials of Greece have recognized, makes the efforts of the Sons of Pericles this year, and in past years, worthwhile. Moving forward, this provides an additional drive for hard work in increasing our membership numbers and raise money for our projects. We are very close to reaching our goal of tripling our membership from just a few short years ago. The initiative where new members between the ages of fourteen to seventeen are allowed to join at no cost and members eighteen and up obtain dual membership in the Sons of Pericles and AHEPA is paying off for both Orders.
As the Supreme Lodge begins to make plans for the Supreme Convention in Miami this July, we look forward to seeing all of our members come together to experience the bonds of brotherhood, as only known by the members of the Order.
