Sons of Pericles make donation to Philoxenia House for 2010-2011 National Project
Last year the Sons of Pericles decided their annual project would support Greek families in need by raising funds for the “Philoxenia House”. Located in Boston, Massachusetts the Philoxenia House provides a home to Greek families seeking medical assistance in surrounding areas.
The Metropolis of Boston established the Philoxenia House in 1986. The house is just that, a fully functioning home with room for families to feel comfortable while they and their loved ones receive the medical attention they need. Visitors have come from not only the United States, but also from cities throughout Greece. Currently, there are two Philoxenia House locations in the Boston Metropolis, with another in Rochester, Minnesota. Families who have utilized these houses have expressed their appreciation for having a home away from home during hard times. With such a great cause, and an ever-growing need for more accommodations, the Sons of Pericles are proudly donating $8,500 to the Philoxenia house in Boston.
We hope that this will allow the house to thrive and continue to be there for those Greek families who find themselves in need.
The Sons of Pericles worked hard throughout the 2010 – 2011 fiscal year raising these funds by selling raffle tickets at district conferences and conventions, regional conventions, and at the Supreme Convention in Miami, Florida. Furthermore, the largest contributions were made by individual chapters of the Sons of Pericles nationwide whom tirelessly raised money specifically for the national project by hosting local events that drew thousands of fundraising dollars.
We are presenting Metropolitan Methodios and a Philoxenia representative the check at the Boston AHEPA Christmas Party on December 10th, 2011, and representatives of the Supreme Lodge of the Sons of Pericles will be in attendance to celebrate the holidays and the worthy cause at hand.
