Brothers and Sisiters of the AHEPA Family,

The Supreme Lodges of the Sons and Maids have chosen to hold a joint National Project for the 2011-2012 year. With our partnership, we have the ability to cover more ground, increase awareness and witness fundraising we haven’t seen in recent years past.

Juvenile Diabetes is a relentless disease that primarily affects individuals within our age group. There is no doubt that many of our friends and family members have also been affected. Even our orders have been directly affected by this disease. This was our motivation in making a decision of where to donate.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) will be the recipient of our National Project dollars. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research, in which 80% of funds are allocated. Since its founding, JDRF has awarded more than $1.5 billion to diabetes research, including $107 million last year making them the largest charitable funder, researcher and advocate of diabetes science worldwide.

For more information, please visit www.jdrf.org.

Over the past few years, both of our orders have grown by leaps and bounds. Now is the time to take advantage of our growing numbers and build awareness in order to increase our stature among the local communities. In order to foster chapter and member participation we have invested in a point based incentive structure. This structure will be based on the amount of dollars donated as well as on the events your chapter participates in. Those events include:

  • Holding an open community banquet
  • Holding a local AHEPA family dinner/dance
  • Ride to Cure (In Conjunction with local JDRF chapter)
  • Walk to Cure (In Conjunction with local JDRF chapter)

On the national level, the SOP and MOA are looking to hold a 50/50 raffle fundraiser and a national banquet. If you were not present at Governor’s Conference and would like raffle tickets to sell, please do not hesitate to contact the National Project Chair (Jason Vergados, info below).

Fraternally,

Jason Vergados
Supreme Governor
